UMaT 5th Annual Thanksgiving Service for the University Held

Staff and Students During a Prayer Session

A three day power packed annual thanksgiving service has been held for staff and students of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa at the Main Auditorium. This is the 5th in the series since its institution in 2013. It was on the theme “A thankful heart opens doors for greater works” The first day was presided over by Bishop Charles Agyinasare, the Bishop of the Perez Chapel International. Bishop Agyinasare based his sermon on the Bible story in Luke chapter 8:39. The story talks about a young man who was mentally unstable and demon possessed. When Jesus arrived in the city with his disciples and met the young man, the demons left him. He then cured the young man of the demons by making the demons to enter a herd of pigs. The Bible verse said “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and informed the whole town how much Jesus had done for him. Bishop Agyinasare indicated to the congregation that the devil was preventing this young man from becoming an ambassador of Jesus Christ. The Bishop prayed for the liberation of all who were possessed by obstacles that prevented them from fulfilling the fullness of God’s plan for their lives.

Bishop Agyinasare encouraged members of the University Community to always thank God for what the Lord had done for the University because according to him God always wants his people to tell of his goodness. The man of God’s message was so touching and encouraging that it got all members of the University Community praising, dancing and thanking God for his goodness towards the University. He prayed and entrusted the Vice Chancellor, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma and the whole University Community into the hands of God. Bishop also performed a healing service for the congregation and many received the healing and blessing Jesus Christ.

The second day, which was the night of ministration, was presided over by Apostle Raymond Acquah, one of Bishop Agyinasare’s Administrative Bishops. He prayed and blessed members of the University Community and encouraged them to stand firm in their faith in God. On Sunday, the day of the actual thanksgiving, Apostle Raymond Acquah preached on the theme “Raising an Altar of Thanksgiving, Praise and Worship”. According to him, there is always a superior Altar which is the blood of Jesus which is the original and that the devil has nothing to offer. He told the congregation never to forget where they came from and encouraged them to always give thanks in order to multiply what they had in life. He admonished members of the congregation to appreciate that any sickness will always die on the Altar of Grace.

As part of the thanksgiving service nine (9) staff of the University who retired from the University in 2017 were each recognised and honoured with a citation and a package for their devoted services to the cause of the University – a service they selflessly rendered with affection, devotion, dignity, dedication and honour. Among the retirees was Assoc Prof Sulemana Al-Hassan, who also served for four years as the immediate past Pro Vice Chancellor of the University. The Vice Chancellor praised him for his loyalty and dedication to duty.
