ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A.PH D PROGRAMMES

Applicants should possess :

(a)a researched Master’s Degree in the relevant field of study from an accredited instituition.

(b)A Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above in the courses offered at the master’s degree level

(c)At least grade ‘B’ in the dissertation presented for the Master’s degree

B.M.PHIL. SCIENCE EDUCATION

Applicants should possess :

i.A good first degree in Sciences with an Education component from a recognised University

ii.A good first degree in the Science from a recognised University and a postgraduate diploma in education or its equivalent

iii.A good first degree in the Sciences from recognised universities and Diploma in Science Education from UEW.

iv.M.Ed. or equivalent qualifications in the Sciences from a recognised university. Such applicant may be required to do the M Phil programme within one year.

C.OTHER M. PHIL/ M A PROGRAMMES

Applicants should possess:

i.A good Bachelor’s Degree with Education component (eg. B.Ed), from the University of Education (UEW) or its equivalent from a recognized University in the relevant field of study, or

ii.A good Bachelor’s Degree without Education e.g. (B.A, BSc) from an accredited university

iii.M.Ed or equivalent qualifications with relevant course content. Such applicant may be required to do the M Phil programme within one year.

D.Applicants with good first degrees from any field of study can apply for Human Rights and Communication and Media Studies programmes.

E.Applicants for the M.Phil./Ph. D.

programmes should submit a proposal defining the specific area of interest, brief description of any previous study conducted on the subject and justification for the study.( Not more than four pages)

G.M.A. EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND

M. ED PROGRAMMES

i.A good Bachelor’s Degree with Education component (eg. B.Ed), from a recognized University in the relevant field of study.

ii.With the exception of M.Ed. Teaching English as a

Second Language, applicants with B A, or BSc

degree without education must also have a Postgraduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education

H.M. ED. IN MENTORSHIP

This programme is run in the distance learning mode.

Applicant must:

i.Be a teacher mentor trained by UEW in the past

ii.Hold a first degree with education component

iii.(eg B. Ed) from a recognized University in the subject specific area and should have taught for at least two years.

iv.Possess a first degree in a subject specific area plus postgraduate diploma/certificate in education.

v.Be a teacher in basic school at the level of principal superintendent and above in the Ghana Education Service status ranking

vi.Be recommended by his/her head of school.

D.POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION

i.Applicant should posses a first Degree from a recognized institution.

ii.Must have interest in teaching.

iii.Must pass an interview.

E .POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN TEACHING

& LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION (PGDTLHE)

Applicant should be

i.Beginning a lecturer in the University of Education, Winneba.

ii.Masters and doctorate degree holder who wishes to pursue academic career as a teacher in tertiary institutions.

iv.Lecturers from tertiary institutions who have no formal qualifications in teaching in Higher Education.

G POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN

EDUCATIONAL AUDIOLOGY (E-LEARNING)

This programme (two semesters) is run in the e- learning mode in collaboration with Wilde Ganzen/ICCO Foundation and Viataal International, Netherlands based organizations.

Applicants must have: A good first degree in the Sciences, Nursing, Psychology or Special Education with major in Communication Disorders or Education of th Hearing Impaired.

Applicants with a degree in Psychology should have two years relevant experience.

H. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN BRAILLE

This programme aims at producing highly qualified personnel with professional skills in Braille reading and writing.

Candidates wishing to enrol on the programme must have a good first degree.

I. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN SIGN

LANGUAGE

This programme aims at producing highly qualified personnel with professional skills in Sign Language interpreting.

F.MASTER OF BUSINESS

ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

MBA (ACCOUNTING) AND MBA (FINANCE)

Applicants must meet any of the following entry requirements:

1.hold a second class honours degree, or its equivalent, in finance, accounting, economics, and other business related subjects. Applications may also be considered from graduates in non-business areas with strong quantitative backgrounds.

2.be a professionally qualified accountant and a member of one of the Accountancy bodies constituting the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

3.have at least one year’s relevant experience in the private or public sector

4.pass a selection interview.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND

ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR) Applicants must meet any of the following entry

requirements:

1.possess a Bachelors degree with at least a 2nd class lower division pass in any field of study from a recognised institution.

2.pass a selection interview

3.in exceptional cases, applicants with 3rd class division passes who are already employed in HR-related fields and demonstrate capacity to cope with the programme may be considered for admission. Such applicants must write and pass a selection examination and an interview.

G.MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (M.

PHIL.) IN TECHNOLOGY

A candidate must meet the following requirements for admission:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, or Technical, or any Engineering / Building discipline with at least a 2nd class division

pass. Applicants without education studies shall be required to take some additional courses in education studies at the undergraduate level..

Submit a statement of purpose or research interest.

H.MASTER OF TECHNOLOGY (MTECH)

A candidate must meet the following requirements for admission:

1.A good Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Technical, Vocational Education or Engineering

2.Submit a statement of research interest.

2.0DURATION OF PROGRAMMES

a.Unless otherwise stated, Master of Philosophy Degree Programmes (Full Time) are of two (2) calendar years’ duration.

b.M Ed, M A and Post Graduate Diploma Programmes are organized in two sessions during long vacations (June-August) and each session lasts for eight (8) weeks.

c.MBA programmes are run on part time basis (in the evenings) and are of two calendar years’ duration

d.M. Ed. in Mentorship programme lasts for one calendar year (July to June).

In exception of Master of Arts in Communication and Media Studies (twelve calendar months: fulltime) and

M. Ed. in Mentorship (one year in the distance learning mode), all M A, M. Ed and Post Graduate Diploma programmes are sandwich programmes.

i.Local Applicants – GH¢150.00

ii.Foreign Applicants and Ghanaian Applicants outside Ghana can purchase the set of Application forms for US $100 (One Hundred United States Dollars).

c.Any change of address must be communicated at once to the Dean, School of Graduate Studies.

d.A change of programme after submission of application forms will NOT be allowed.

e.ALL certificates and results slips other than those from the West African Examinations Council, the Universities in Ghana and Institutions accredited by the National Accreditation Board, should be cleared with the Accreditation Board and the evaluation report attached to the certificate(s).
