Bachelor B.A Film Studies ( Regular) At UCC

Film studies is an academic discipline that deals with various theoretical, historical, and critical approaches to films.

It is sometimes subsumed within media studies and is often compared to television studies. 

Entry Requirements: 

Post-Senior Secondary Scool Candidates i. Candidates must have passes in at least two Elective Arts subjects: Literature in English, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), Music, Religious Studies, History/Government. ii. Applicants who intend to read B.A. (Film Studies) as their major subject must have a good pass (not below C6) in Literature in English at the WASSCE.

Films provide a great source of entertainment for many people as well as a great means to inform and educate.

An in-depth understanding of this field is important to maximize the benefits society can gain from it.

The UCC BA in Film Studies equips students with the tools to critically examine films on technical, thematic, and structural bases. It also builds one’s capacity to become great filmmakers.

This programme seeks to:

develop in the student’s skills that will enable him/her to solve problems of his/her mother’s environment through the application of research in theatre and film aesthetics. develop in the students the creative ability in theatre and film arts.

promote the development of a contemporary film graduate relevant to the developmental agenda of the country and consistent with the trends of human resource development globally.

The use of the powerful media of film to inform, entertain, and educate, to effect desired social, cultural, environmental, political, and economic development of the people of the nation and beyond.
