Faculty of Allied Health Sciences
The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences is a post-secondary school establishment in the College of Health Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. The Faculty offers a variety of degree and diploma top-up programs through campus based education.
At the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS), we are committed to teaching students to develop the expertise and knowledge to pursue a variety of career opportunities. We offer campus based classes for students to pursue their educational objectives. Our knowledgeable teaching staff provide good academic resources to provide academic success.
The Faculty trains and educates today’s health care professionals: Medical Laboratory Technologists, Nurses, Midwives and Sonographers who are the backbone of our country’s health care workforce. The Faculty also educates and trains students to become Sports and Exercise Science experts. The Faculty has four departments.
The Department of Nursing offers education which leads to the Baccalaureate degrees in Nursing, Emergency Nursing and Midwifery.
The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology offers education which leads to the Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
The Department of Sonography offers education which leads to the Baccalaureate degree in Sonography.
The Department of Sports and Exercise Science offers education which leads to the Baccalaureate degree in Sports and Exercise Science.
Entry Requirements
All first degree programmes of study are of four (4) years duration. The minimum/general
requirements for admission are as follows:
WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS
An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science
and Technology (KNUST) must have:
i. Credits in three (3) WASSCE/SSSCE core subjects: English Language, Mathematics
and Integrated Science.
These core subjects are pre-requisites for all programmes of study at KNUST.
AND
ii. Credits in three (3) WASSCE/SSSCE elective subjects or its equivalent relevant to the
chosen programme with aggregate 24 or better.
Acceptable grades for admission are:
- WASSCE: A1 – C6
- SSSCE: A – D
D7, E8 and F9 are not acceptable for admission purposes at KNUST.
ADVANCED LEVEL/MATURE APPLICANTS
Applicants must have:
i. Five (5) credits at the GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics (or its
approved equivalent)
PLUS
ii. Passes in at least two (2) subjects at the Advanced Level.
AND
iii. Fulfil the relevant Departmental requirements.
