University of Education Winneba  UEW vice chancellor

Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw a zoologist and a science Educator has more than twenty-six years of professional experience in teaching and research both at the secondary and tertiary levels of education in Ghana and West Africa.
Until his appointment as Vice Chancellor he held several positions in UCEW/UEW including the following: Pro Vice-Chancellor; Deputy Director, SACOST; Head, Department of Science Education; Head of Biology Section; Coordinator, Environmental Education; and member of many committees and boards of UCEW/UEW.

Between 1999 and 2006 Professor Asabere-Ameyaw was involved in fundraising programmes for UCEW/UEW. In 2006, he was a member of the team that won a €2,400,000 grant from NUFFIC for PRACTICAL project in Ghana and a TALIF grant of $191,000 for SACOST for the development of contextualized teaching-learning materials. He provided leadership to the team that won a $2,000,000 grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York for five interventions for the period 2006-2009 in University of Education, Winneba. Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw, also provided support to the Office for Institutional Advancement for the development of a two billion cedi souvenir investment with a 25% return.

Professor Asabere-Ameyaw is a member of the Professional Board, Institute of Education, UCC; Member, Reconstituted Man and Biosphere National Committee, and he serves on the Advisory Board of the Techiman Traditional Council, Brong Ahafo Region. He was also Chief Examiner in Integrated Science for West Africa Examination Council 2000-2004.

African Forum for Children’s Literacy in Science (AFCLIST)

He is an external examiner for graduate studies at the University of Cape Coast and University of Ghana, Legon. He has to his credit over thirty published peered-reviewed works, books, reports, book chapters, proceedings and journal articles. Currently in press are his own book and four co-authored books. He has offered editorial services to a number of publications and serves as a reviewer to a number of journals in West Africa including West African Journal of Applied Ecology, Journal of Educational Development and Practice, African Journal of Educational Studies in Mathematics and Science and others.
Professor Asabere-Ameyaw is a Christian (Methodist). He enjoys gardening, reading and playing scrabble.
