List Of District Chief Executives In Ghana

A District Chief Executive (DCE) is an appointed public servant who heads a district in Ghana.

It is an official and nationally recognized position and is similar to that of a mayor of a city in other countries.

The responsibilities and duties of a district chief executive are enshrined in the Constitution of Ghana.

The government has released President Akufo-Addo’s choice of nominees for the various metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies across the country.

The Minister for Local Government, Dan Botwe at the minister’s press briefing on Sunday, September 19, 2021, indicated that the list has been forwarded to the various regional ministers.

The regional ministers are expected to contact the Electoral Commission who will commence processes for assembly elections on the various nominees.

The administrative divisions of the Republic of Ghana consist of four geographic terrestrial plains and 16 regions.

For local government, there are a total of 216 districts including 145 ordinary districts, 109 municipal districts, and six metropolitan districts.

Responsibilities of a DCE in Ghana
