Gur-Gonja Education

Gur-Gonja Education

The Department has submitted the initial application for the approval of the B.A in Kusaal programme for the 2014/2015 academic year to the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE). This is in line with the department’s mandate and efforts to expand our programmes to cater for the needs of the diverse linguistic communities in northern Ghana and to improve literacy using the mother tongue. With the introduction of Kusaal, the number of languages in the Department will increase to six: Dagaare, Dagbani, Gonja, Gurene, Kasem, and Kusaal.

The introduction of the programme will help train teachers to acquire knowledge and skills in Kusaal language, literature, and Culture to teach at the pre-school, basic, secondary, colleges of education, and also work at other educational institutions. This is in line with the mission of the University of Education, Winneba, to train competent professional teachers for all levels of education as well as conduct research, disseminate knowledge and to contribute to educational policy and development.
