What Is LNB?
Low-Noise Block Downconverter Is the receiving device mounted on satellite dishes used for satellite TV reception, which collects the radio waves from the dish and converts them to a signal which is sent through a cable to the receiver inside the building.
How Does The LNB Works?
An LNB has two important functions: it’s a low-noise amplifier, meaning that it takes the extremely weak satellite signal and amplifies it. It’s also a block downconverter, meaning it takes the signals on the super-high satellite frequencies and converts them to lower frequencies.
How Do You Connect LNB?

The LNB gets its power from the receiver or set-top box, using the same coaxial cable that carries signals from the LNB to the receiver.
What Voltage Does An LNB Need?
The LNBA and LNBB outputs supply either 13V or 18V. If VSEL is low (VSEL = L) 13V is selected, otherwise, if VSEL is high (VSEL = H) 18V is selected. This kind of feature changes the LNBP polarization type. The LNB switches horizontal or vertical polarization depending on the supply voltage it gets from the receiver.
Will Any LNB Work With Any Dish?
As a general rule, you can’t use an LNB unless it’s designed for the dish you have. If you use the wrong LNB, the dish will focus the signals in the wrong place and you’ll get no reception. DIRECTV and DISH have specific LNBs that are designed to pull in signals from their specific fleets of satellites.
How Long Do LNB Last?
