Garden City University Opens Applications For Masters Degree In Midwifery
The Garden City University College (GCUC), a private University in Keynase, Kumasi has opened applications for qualified candidates for admission to its 2-year Master’s (MSc) Degree programme in Midwifery in collaboration with the University of Calabar, Nigeria. The programme which begins in May 2022 has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
Possess a minimum of 2ndClass Honours (Lower Division) BSc Degree in Midwifery or BSc Degree in Nursing with a Diploma in Midwifery, from an accredited and recognized university
Possess a valid License of Registration for Practice from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana or any other country
Have at least two (2) years teaching/clinical experience after National Service
Present a Letter of Intent/Purpose
Submit two Reference Letters: one Academic from the applicant’s Training Institution, and one Clinical from his/her Head of Department
Pass a Selection Interview

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
The Programme seeks to produce post-graduate Midwives who will, among other needs:
Critically evaluate, develop, and oversee maternity services and Healthcare in their communities by ensuring humanizing and safe experience for mothers and their families
Teach in a variety of capacities, including undergraduate and basic midwifery programmes
- Conduct both independent and collaborative research that will support innovations contributing to the development of midwifery practice
Provide national and international midwifery care to promote women’s health and contribute to reduction in maternal and infant mortality and morbidity
Work collaboratively with professionals from a variety of disciplines to promote midwifery practice/maternal and child health
Identify and implement changes in complex health care delivery systems that enhance the quality and cost-effectiveness of clients’ care.
PROGRAMME DURATION AND STRUCTURE
DURATION:
The Programme is of 24 months (2 years) duration for Full-Time students, and 48 months (4 years) duration for Part-Time students.
STRUCTURE:
The programme is a combination of taught courses (Core and Electives) and research, consisting of problem-based lectures, seminars, fieldwork, clinical postings and a research project (Dissertation).
MODE OF DELIVERY:
Courses will be delivered in modules in a blend of Face-to-face and Virtual mode.
