JOURNAL EDITORIAL POLICY:

The LJS is an interdisciplinary refereed journal that seeks to promote a critical analysis of issues in West Africa. The Editorial Board would be glad to receive articles and research notes that are empirically based and with a sound theoretical background in the social sciences. The LJS is published twice a year in June and December.

Articles in the LJS represent neither the views of the Editorial Board nor the Department of Sociology. No part of this publication may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, without written permission from the publisher.

Notes for contributors

All contributions should be original pieces and should not be under consideration
elsewhere. All rights of accepted contributions will be reserved to the LJS. All
contributions should follow the editorial guidelines of the journal listed below:

1. Articles should be typed on one side only on A4 paper (two copies). Articles should not exceed 8000 words, including figures, notes and references. Research reports must not exceed 5000 words. The text should also be submitted on email to ljs@ug.edu.gh
2. Bibliographical references should be given in alphabetical order, according to the following examples:

a) Journal article: Amoako, Sam (1999). ‘Military Intervention in Ghana’, Journal of Modern African Studies, 25, 3:230-255.
b) Book: Quartey, Mohammed (2002). Interethnic Relations in Ghana, Accra, Maguesa Publishers.
c) Edited book: Hansen, Enoch and Mensah, Robert (eds) (2001). The State and Economic Reforms in West Africa. London, Sagena Publishers.
d) Articles in book: Opoku, Michael (2001). ‘Ghana’s Transition to Democracy’, in Enoch Hansen, & Robert Mensah, (eds) (2001). The State and Economic Reforms in West Africa. London, Sagena Publishers, 25-47.

3. References cited in the text should read thus: (Amoako 1999: 235).
4. Quotations of more than three lines should be indented and the source provided.
5. Use footnotes (not endnotes) numbered consecutively throughout the text. Footnotes should be kept to an absolute minimum.
6. Tables and diagrams should be used only when absolutely necessary. Camera-ready artwork for all maps, figures or diagrams must be supplied.

Manuscripts will not be returned to the authors. All authors are therefore advised to send only copies of their articles. An author’s alteration in proof, other than the correction of the printer’s errors, shall be charged to the authors. Authors are entitled, free of charge, to one copy of the issue in which their article is published.
