How is genetics applied in medicine?

Genetic techniques are used in medicine to diagnose and treat inherited human disorders. Knowledge of a family history of conditions such as cancer or various disorders may indicate a hereditary tendency to develop these afflictions.

How has applied genetics improved human life?

During the past 80 years classical applied genetics has been responsible for: increased yields; overcoming natural breeding barriers; increased genetic diversity for specific uses; expanded geographical limits where crops can be grown, and improved plant quality.

What other applications can genetics be applied?

In medicine, genetic engineering has been used to mass-produce insulin, human growth hormones, Follistim (for treating infertility), human albumin, monoclonal antibodies, antihemophilic factors, vaccines, and many other drugs. In research, organisms are genetically engineered to discover the functions of certain genes.
