Electrical Installation Certificates (EICs) and Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificates (MEIWCs) provide you, as the person responsible for the safety of an electrical installation, with a declaration that the new installation, or alteration or addition, is safe to use at the time it was put into service.

Senior High School (SHS) graduates with at least four (4) passes, including English Language and core Mathematics.

Ordinary level graduates with at least six (6) passes including English Language and Mathematics.

Advance level graduates with at least two (2) passes.

Equivalent Professional Qualifications at level three (3) of the UK National Qualification Framework.

Who can issue an electrical installation certificate?

An electrical safety certificate is a declarative document that an installation is safe to have in use from the moment that it was put into service.

It can only be issued by a registered electrician.

How long does an electrical installation certificate last?

If you‘re unable to track down the certificate, or you think the electrician who carried out the work never supplied one, you should contact the electrician.

The electrician may be able to complete an EIC for the work. Alternatively, the electrician may be able to redo the work and submit a new EIC for it.
