There are a number of Gospel Musicians doing their bit to be a blessing to the body of Christ in Ghana, and I must say Ghana is blessed with such a hardworking, talented new generation of gospel musicians, and we are blessed to have them lift our spirits up with their songs.

In this article, I bring to you the top 10, highly patronized (in terms of events and music), highly respected, very talented, and also very popular gospel musicians we currently have in Ghana. Though this might come from ‘a viewpoint’ in its submission, to a large extent we cannot disagree entirely with the role these ones play in pushing Ghanaian gospel music to other parts of the world.

1. DIANA HAMILTON

‘Mo Ne Yo‘ and W’asem‘ singer Diana Antwi Hamilton has proven over the years in her gospel music career as one of the best from and most consistent in Ghana. She has garnered love and attention for her ministry as a result of her unique and impeccable delivery both on stage and from studio work.

The UK-based reigning VGMAs Gospel Artist of the Year has never stopped gathering thousands before God in worship at her flagship ‘The Experience with Diana‘ worship concert. Her very latest single. ‘Was’, though didn’t perform as much as ‘Mo ne Yo’ did, is still very popular in Ghana.

2. JOE METTLE

Joseph Oscar Mettle, the only Gospel Artist to have won the prestigious VGMAs overall Artiste of the Year, has become a household name when it comes to Gospel music in Ghana.With five albums to his credit including the recent ‘Wind of Revival’ album, Joe continues to realize great successes in putting Ghana gospel on the world market. Joe has won several awards both at home and abroad.

His song ‘Bo noo ni’ has seen more than 10 million streams on YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify alone, making it one of his greatest hit songs so far. ‘My Everything’ is one of his very popular and inspirational singles released from ‘Wind of Revival’ in 2019. The Afrobeat jam has given the world the opportunity to see the versatile side of Joe in approaching music.

3. CELESTINE DONKOR

Celestine Donkor has become one of the top gospel musicians currently in Ghana. Aside from the fact that she has really pushed herself by hard work to win the admiration of the general public, her song ‘Agbebolo’ which features the youngster Nhyiraba Gideon contributed largely to this success.’

Agbebolo’ got her nominated on many Award platforms and subsequently winning some of these awards. The very latest is the Gospel Artiste of the Year at NGMA’19. Celestine also has a beautiful collaboration titled ‘Bigger’ with one of Nigeria’s finest worshippers Steve Crown that has also caught the attention of people in Ghana and Nigeria.

4. OHEMAA MERCY

She is like a mother and mentor to many gospel musicians in Ghana, highly respected and honored by many in Ghana. Although lately not so forthcoming with the production and release of music, her impact in the Gospel fraternity is unmatchable. Now the name Ohemaa Mercy is Synonymous with the ‘Tehillah Experience‘ which usually takes place in August of every year.

The largely patronized worship and revival concert, as a matter of fact, gets bigger every year with manifestation and testimonies afterward. The 2018 edition of her annual concert saw the world-renowned American gospel singer Juanita Bynum gracing the occasion with powerful ministration.

With over thirty years in gospel music, Daughters have become a source of inspiration to many young and emerging gospel artists, even to the mainstream gospel acts. Without a doubt, Pastor Nana Yaw Boakye-Yiadom popularly known by his stage name MOG has grown to be an ‘A’ gospel artiste within these few years. Though MOG has been in ministry for a while now with two solid albums, many believed his popularity even to the entire general public was made possible by his hit single ‘Be Lifted’.The thriving artist with so many nominations on notable awards platforms including some awards is known to be a praise and worship powerhouse who is also good when it comes to Urban Gospel music as well. Other songs such as ‘Elohim’ ‘Hallelujah’ and more have likewise been recognized in the public domain and have become corporate worship songs.

Let me put it this one, KODA has somehow contributed to some of the contemporary gospel hit songs in Ghana, either through production or song arrangement.His song ‘Hosanna’ from the ‘Hosanna Live’ album has blown many away as it became a regular anthem in many churches with its compelling dance attribute.
