Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources

Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources

The Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources (FRNR) was established, initially, as the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources in 1982. Following a re-structuring of the University a Collegiate System, it was re-constituted as the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, and headed by a Dean.

The Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology remains a major training ground for medium to high level professionals in the sustainable management and utilisation of the nation’s renewable natural resources. The Faculty is recognised for its high quality education and impeccable contribution to scientific research in development and preservation of the country’s natural resources. The Faculty also conducts development-oriented research towards the improvement of the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The Faculty reaches out to society to promote and create awareness in the need to sustainably utilise the natural resources without sacrificing the integrity of the environment. The contributions of the faculty’s activities are crucial for the socio-economic development of Ghana and the sub-region. The faculty achieves its mandate through teaching, research and service to the community.  It offers the opportunity to students at the tertiary level by enabling students to acquire the necessary knowledge and experiences to work on their own and to develop their leadership competencies to embark on scientific activities for the benefit of society.

The faculty has five academic departments namely; Agroforestry, Fisheries and Watershed Management, Silviculture and Forest Management, Wildlife and Range Management and Wood Science and Technology. The faculty offers degrees at BSc, MSc, MPhil and PhD in all its five Departments. The faculty also accommodates the offices of the Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) and remains a focal contact for visitors to the CANR.
