Available Departments-Balme Library UG

The Balme Library consists of 6 departments and 1 special library for the visually and hearing impaired.

• Acquisitions
  The Acquisitions department orders and receives all library materials. Processing of all library materials begins in this department.
• Cataloguing
  Library materials are processed in this department using the millenium software from Innovative Interfaces, and sent to the shelves.
• Periodicals
  This department receives all journal and periodical subscriptions and keeps a record of them. The department is also responsible for gifts and exchange.
• Reference
  The Reference department is the first point of call for the user / reader. It consists of the librarys’ special collections which are:

• Africana collection
• Arabic collection
• Students Reference collection
• United Nations Regional Depository collection
• World Bank Collection. This collection is housed in the Development Information Center (DIC) and contains largely reports of Development Research on Developing Countries

• Technical Services
  The Technical Services Department (TSD) of the Balme Library provides bindery, and other reprographic services for the library and the university community.
• Braille Library
  It is a library for the visually and hearing impaired.
