M. ED HOME ECONOMICS EDUCATION (SANDWICH)

Rational for the programme

It is recognized that there are prospective students who either

1.  do not have enough time to finish a two year M.Phil programme or

2.  find it inconvenient to be in full time residence to undertake any higher degree course or

3.  who after graduation would be working as educational administrators

For such students an M.Ed programme has been designed with a course content basically the same as the M.Phil programme except that the students will not be required to undertake a full year thesis research work to qualify an M.Ed degree.

Objectives

The programme is designed to produce:

students with the requisite theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enable them cope with the challenges involved in the planning, monitoring and      evaluation of  programmes.

students who are self-supporting and adaptive to changes in the world and in an educational system that are currently and increasingly under-pinned by ICT  applications

students with capabilities to design enquiry approaches to solve educational problems in Home Economics through an active utilization of the skills and insights    presented and developed in the pgoramme

a crop of graduates capable of teaching various content and methodology courses in Home Economics in pre-tertiary institution in Ghana

a corps of graduates capable of doing  administration, extension work.

Home Economics, Fashion or Catering Teachers at

i)    Basic level (Home Economics)

ii)   Secondary level (Clothing and Textiles, Foods and Nutrition and Management in Living)

iii)  Tertiary Level Home (Economics, Fashion and Catering)

c)         Heads of Educational Institutions at the Pre-Tertiary Levels.

 Entry Requirements for Admission

A candidate seeking admission into this programme shall be required to obtain a B.Ed (Home Economics) degree from U.E.W. or an equivalent qualification from any other University recognized by the Academic Board of U.E.W with a grading not below a Second Class Lower.
