The programme is open to all applicants, but targeted towards young and mid-career professionals working or seeking to work in the mining, oil and gas, civil, geotechnical, agricultural, and water industries in Ghana and the West African sub-region. The programme will provide participants with practical knowledge and skills in the collection, processing and interpretation of geophysical data for applications in geotechnical investigations, exploration of oil and gas, mineral resources and groundwater, mining ore bodies, siting of disposal sites and landfills, and assessing integrity of natural earth materials for addressing societal needs.

Admission Requirements:

An applicant must hold: (a) either a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) B.Sc. degree in Geological Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geophysics, Physics, Geology, Earth Science, Agricultural Engineering or any field of specialization relevant to the programme from a recognized University or (b) a Second Class (Lower Division) B.Sc. degree in the stated areas with some years of relevant experience. Applicants with degrees in other disciplines may be required to take prerequisite courses to make up for deficiencies in geological sciences.

Programme Structure:

The M.Sc. Geophysical Engineering programme consists of eleven (11) modules that are designed to be completed within two (2) academic years. The first academic year is devoted to the taught modules while emphasis is on a supervised individual research and producing a standard thesis in the second year. Participants will, also, be required to attend seminars given by professionals from industry and take part in field practical training. Classes are, mainly, held on weekends.
