St Francis University of Health and Allied Science

St Francis University of Health and Allied Science

Establishment of St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences (SFUCHAS)

The idea to establish SFUCHAS is a consequence of the decision taken by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) based on the need for the Catholic Church to contribute to the training of more doctors and other Health professionals in Tanzania in the face of inadequacy of qualified personnel in the Health Sector.

The Technical Evaluation Committee formed by the Tanzania Commission for Universities visited SFUCHAS from 23rd to 25th November, 2010. The Committee was satisfied and recommended that the centre had a strong potential and reasonable level of preparedness to become a constituent College of SAUT.

The Tanzania Commission for Universities during its 4th special meeting held on 2nd November, 2010 approved the issuance of the Certificate of Provisional Registration (CPR) No. 30 to the proposed SFUCHAS, valid from 3rd November, 2010 (App.1).

41 first year MD students (M=35, F=11).  reported to the college on the 28th November, 2010. The Eucharistic Holy Mass Celebration for the inauguration of the College Academic year was held on 29th November 2010, led by the Rt. Rev. Agapit Ndorobo Bishop of Mahenge Diocese.

Classes commenced on the 30th November, 2010. The students are now in their second half of the first semester and are progressing on well.
