The following steps will give you a head start on how to register your business online in Ghana.

Decide on the business to establish

According to the Registrar General’s Department, there are five (5) groups of businesses you can register in Ghana.

The first step is to decide which of them you want to establish:

Company limited by shares

Company limited by guarantee

External companies

Partnerships

Conduct a Name Search

Once you know the business to establish, the next step to decide the name for the business. You also have to continue to check whether the name you have is eligible for registrations. Some business names are in use already.

To check your name, head to RGD’s Name Search portal and type the name and the entity type in the column.

You will get an automatic notification on whether your business name is open for registration.

Get your Tax Identification Number (TIN)

If you are starting a sole proprietorship, you only need one TIN.

But for those registering other groups of businesses where directors, shareholders, and secretaries are involved, you need to get a TIN for all the officers. You can get your TIN by filling the form at the TIN Portal here:

Information required includes the following: name, occupation, Photo ID details, mother’s maiden name, residential and postal address and contact number.

Fill Business Registration Forms at RGD E –Portal

Base on the type of entity you are registering, you can fill the online forms at the RGD’s E –Portal.

If you are looking to register a limited company, the following are some of the details that required for successful completion of the form: company name, residential address, postal address, principal place of business, business objectives, contact, licensed auditor, the authorized number of shares issued, stated capital, personal details of secretary, directors, and shareholders. Once you are done filling the form you can just submit it via the portal.

Pay stamp duty, business incorporation and filing fees

To complete your online registration, you have to head to the online payment portal to make the required payments for your business registration.

The fees include stamp duty, incorporation and filling.

The total fees required for limited companies is GHS 330.00.

Collect your business registration certificates

You have worked hard, it’s time to reap the rewards.

Usually, it takes 2 business weeks for all business registrations to be completed.

After that, all your forms should be ready.
