B.Sc – Doctor of Optometry (OD)-UCC

Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated and regulated (licensed/registered), and optometrists provide eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.

Admission Requirements :The requirements shall be the same as the entry requirements for the school of physical sciences.  Candidates with B.Sc (Optometry) or B.Sc (Ophthalmic Science) or B.Sc. (Vision Science) or post graduate diploma in Optometry may be allowed to enter the professional programme (OD) at the appropriate level depending on the content of their transcripts.

Post-Senior Secondary School Candidates

Candidates must obtain
(a) passes in Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies
(b) passes in Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Elective Mathematics; and
(c) an overall aggregate of 36 or better in three core and three elective subjects.
* This is a six-year programme.
