Role of the SRC

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in adherence to the provisions of its constitution plays its role in ensuring the general welfare of all students of this university. This it does by serving as the voice of all students by presenting issues as are necessary for a smooth academic environment. This takes the form of negotiations, and lobbying on behalf of students. This is clearly the case in school fees negotiations etc.

Also the council plays an advisory role to both university management and students at large in matters bordering students well being. This it does by it presence on key university boards such as the welfare service board, the Health service board, the academic board, the Library board etc. The council further concerns itself with all issues that threaten the congenial atmosphere of learning; hence it seeks to appoint sub-committees to look into any matter that affects students such as conflicts, sanitation, security etc.

Through it constant touch with university authority the SRC works towards building healthier staff-students relations to ensure mutual trust and respect. By its membership with several mass student movements outside of campus, .the SRC cooperates with other representative student bodies from other institutions to work towards students well being. Aside this, it also builds cordial relations with institutions and organizations of learning within and outside Ghana for mutual benefits.

Finally in realization of the multicultural and religious environment in which we find our self, the SRC also works towards the promotion of more cordial relations between students and or groups of students without discrimination on the basis of religion, ethnic origin, sex or nationality. The Yaw Oduro admnistration is committed to restoring the lost  confidence and re-ignite the interest of students in SRC and its activities through an efficient,transparent and interactive system of leadership.The administration also seeks to integrate the SRC with the student body through the creation of an interactive platform between students and the SRC to strenghten the student front.The administration also seeks to ensure that the welfare of all students is catered for.

The Yaw Oduro lead admnistration in promoting welfare of students has introduced SRC 2010/2011 scholarship scheme to ensure full payment of schoolfees and rent for  about 400 needy students. the admistration also seeks to create a conducive academic atmosphere for students to enhance learning and this they have achieved by the near

completion of the SRC carrera ICT centre., there are also plans of extending opening hours of the university library,where students could be trained as librarians to assist in library duties in the night to pave way for the extension of the library hours. There are also ongoing talks between the SRC and the admnistration to open the lecture rooms in central classroom block for students to study in the evening. In its bid to improving security on campus, the SRC is embarking on a streetlight  project to lighten every corner on cants bompus. In its bid  to integrate the SRC with the student body through the creation of an interactive platform,plans are underway of revamping the SRC website to  an international level, where views sectoined from the students body would be acted upon accordingly and this would  help shape the course of the administration.This also attest to the fact that,he is a president with a listening ear, which indeed was one of his campaign slogans,which complemented his KEY  campaign slogan COMMITTED TO THE END.

Yaw Oduro is currently the SRC president.He is  a level four hundred student of Aerospace engineering  and a former vice president of aerospace engineering.
