Who is a metallurgist and what do they do? The metallurgist treats metals in order to achieve required properties. May also be known as a materials scientist or materials/metallurgy technologists. There are also less well qualified materials technicians who support the work of metallurgists and materials scientists.

What are the activities of the metallurgist job? Handles the issue of chemical and physical composition of metals, takes measures to keep their properties and other qualities of metal and metal products. There are both chemical and physical metallurgists. The former extract metals from ore, the latter tests the reaction of metals in different conditions, under heat, cold and stress. Process metallurgists control processes such as casting, welding and soldering. Metallurgists are also involved in research work.

Where is it done and under what conditions? In offices and in factories or foundries producing metals or metal goods where dirt, noise and high temperatures are normal. Some work is also done in laboratories.

What tools/equipment do they use? A variety of scientific and technological instruments and equipment.

What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed secondary or university education, be a consistent worker and have the necessary knowledge of metallurgy.
