What Is Iron Rod?
An Iron Rod Is a length of iron that is mainly used in heavy construction projects. Reinforced concrete is intertwined with iron rods, also called rebar, to strengthen the tension of the build. An iron rod can be purchased with or without a ribbed design. Construction-grade iron rods are primarily used in construction or building projects, but a wrought-iron rod can be used in various types of decorative art projects.
Iron is one of the 92 basic elements that are considered “natural,” meaning they’re not manmade; iron is identified by the symbol “Fe” and has an atomic number of 26. It is hardly ever found in a pure iron form, though there have been pure iron meteorites found. Iron is usually mined in the form of an oxidized or sulfide form of iron ore. The iron ore has to go through a process of reduction to be transformed into a pure metallic state. This reduction process basically takes the oxygen out of the ore and makes it pure.
What Is Iron Rod Material?
Generally they are made with either fiberglass, graphite, or a new generation composite, also known as carbon fibre. Many times carbon fibre and graphite are used together in the rod making process.
How Is Iron Rod Made?
Raw materials such as coke, iron ore, dolomite and limestone are put into a blast furnace and treated with hot gases while in their molten form. The molten state of iron is pre-treated and converted into steel. The chemical composition of the steel is then refined by passing through ladle heating.
What Are The Types Of Iron Rods?
- Mild Steel Plain Bars. This is one of the simplest types of steel bars which is being used in building construction for a long time now.
- Hot Rolled Deformed Bars.
- TMT Steel.
- Cold Worked Steel Bars.
- Prestressing Steel Bars.
Is Iron Rod Pure?
100% pure iron is used for making the rods which is processed under latest technologies to enhance its strength. Iron Rod has fine finish and accurate shape that is required for construction purposes.
How Strong Is Iron Rod?
Strength of Iron
In fact, pure iron has a yield strength of around 7250 psi, while steel is never below 30,000 psi and usually closer to 50,000 psi. However, iron is a very strong metal, and that’s why it’s such a crucial part of the makeup of steel.
