Doctor of Philosophy in Historical Studies (PhD) At KNUST

The Doctor of Philosophy program in the College of Education prepares students for careers in research or scholarly inquiry and teaching at the college level.

Historical Studies (PhD) Degree

PhD Programmes (Full-Time) are of Four (4) Calendar Years and (PartTime) are of Five (5) Calendar Years duration.

Historical Studies (PhD) At KNUST Entry Requirement.

Applicants for the PhD Historical Studies degree are expected to have
completed a postgraduate master’s thesis (MA, MSc, MRes or MPhil in
History). Other disciplinary backgrounds will be considered. In cases where
the applicant is lacking knowledge in the foundational courses, the applicant will do a top up of the relevant courses. The candidate shall be assessed within twelve months of admission and advised on suitability or otherwise. All applications must include a research proposal, copies of transcripts of all postsecondary level education received as well as three letters of recommendation from individuals in professional capacities who are familiar with the applicant’s potential for graduate study. The final
requirement for admission is a Departmental Board interview to determine
applicants’ likelihood of academic success.
