ABOUT THE COURSE
The LLM International Commercial LLM equips law graduates and professionals with the understanding and skills to enable them to address legal issues of economic globalization. Graduates will be able to apply these skills to enhance their professional and academic development. Learning and Teaching is at the heart of the Law Division. Our teaching makes use of a variety of innovative teaching and learning methods. The Research Methods modules will allow you to develop your analytical, evaluative and research skills.
MODULES
To be awarded the LLM International Commercial Law you must successfully complete the following modules:
Principles of European Law
Address the evolution of the EU as a supranational legal, economic and political entity, whilst highlighting the legal principles that underpin the ambition for economic and social cohesion.
International Corporate Law
Develop your existing legal knowledge in business law, covering the regulation of corporations in relation to the European Union and its Members States and the wider international community.
International Corporate Crime
Analyses the threat posed to law and order by International Corporate Crime (ICC) examined in the context of legal responses to international Corporate Crime, including the links between UK measures and European and International measures.
Private International Law
Focuses on the legal framework that has developed to address the conflict of laws that can arise when there is applicable law available in more than one jurisdiction.
Intellectual Property Rights
Develops your understanding of the concepts of intellectual property rights to enable you to apply domestic and international legal principles to a range of scenarios.
Research Methods
Provides you with the relevant skills to undertake an independent piece of research
Dissertation
An opportunity for you to carry out research over a sustained period of time, probing issues of interest to you which have arisen out of previous study and interests.
ASSESMENT
The programme is assessed via a combination of time constrained reports, critical legal arguments, seminar presentations, module essays, examinations and submission of a dissertation of approximately 15,000 words.
CAREER OPPORTUNTIES
Graduates of the LLM International Commercial Law will hold the skills and knowledge needed to practice in an international commercial environment. The programme provides sound knowledge if you want to pursue a legal career in business or commerce, but also have the option to continue to expand your academic knowledge through PhD studies in your chosen field.
