Online Birth Certificate Registration In Ghana

Birth Registration Requirements

The birth of every child is to be registered in the district where the birth occurred.

It is the duty of the parents (father, mother or both) to register the birth of the child.

The informant should produce evidence of birth, such as a Child Health Record. (Weighing card)

The birth must be registered within 12 months of occurrence. Registration outside this period attracts a penalty.

A birth certificate is issued after the registration of the birth.

The parent or child can apply for a Certified Copy of Entry in the Register of Births any time the need arises. NEVER report the same birth for registration twice.

Corrections and insertions may also be made after registration.

Birth Registration Procedures

The informant (preferably the parents) with adequate evidence of the birth (such as a weighing card) is present to give information about a birth.

The registration officer interviews and completes the birth report form which must be duly signed by the informant having satisfied him/herself as to the correctness of the information recorded.
