French is a Romance language of the Indo-European family. It descended from the Vulgar Latin of the Roman Empire, as did all Romance languages.

Translation deciphers meaning of the written word from one language to another. Interpretation conveys meaning of the spoken word from one language to another. The common thread is language. However, the two professions require very different skills.

PhD Programmes (Full-Time) are of Four (4) Calendar Years and (PartTime) are of Five (5) Calendar Years duration.

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in French from a recognised
University and must submit a research proposal acceptable to the
Postgraduate Coordinating Team. In addition, candidates will be required to
pass a selection interview.
