Sunyani Technical University (STU) holds fashion and exhibition show – 2018

Exhibition: SONODWAE 2018

Dr. J. S. Korantwi-Barimah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University performing the opening ceremony of the 2nd annual Exhibition and Fashion Show dubbed “Sonodwae 2018” of the Department of Visual and Industrial Art.

“Sonodwae” is an annual event designed to showcase the creative works of the final year students of the Visual and Industrial Art Department of the university through exhibition and fashion show.

The Department of Visual and Industrial Art of the Sunyani Technical University has ended its second annual Exhibition and Fashion Show dubbed “Sonodwae 2018” on the theme, “Creative Expressions”

“Sonodwae” is an annual event designed to showcase the creative works of the final year students of the Visual and Industrial Art Department of the university through exhibition and fashion show.

The maiden edition took place last year with 24 students while this year’s event saw 34 final year students demonstrating their skills and talents in the creative industry.

Some of the works that were on display at the exhibition show included batik tie & dye, ceramic products, variety of local designs and paintings, among others.

The programme was crowned with a well-patronized fashion show held at the K. Nsiah-Gyabaah Auditorium which saw 34 final year fashion students display their dexterity in design and sewing of various types of dresses.

They included occasional wear, beach wear, cocktail party wear, casual wear, bridal gown, evening wear, ladies office wear, dinner wear, Islamic ladies, wear and Berwaa dance costume, among many others.

Two categories of awards namely; Academic Awards and Special Awards, were given out to deserving students and some other people.

Emmanuel Frimpong emerged as the Over-all Best Student for 2017/2018 academic year. The Best Fashion Design student award went to Lydia Gyimah while Abigail Apam Ageolu was adjudged the Best Textile Design student for 2017/2018 academic year.

The HOD Special Award went to Carlos Kwadwo Gyamfi, with Christiana Kyeremaa grabbing the Most Promising Student Award. Paakow Appiah Mends was adjudged the Student Leadership Award while Kwame Amofa went home with the Most Disciplined Male Student award.

The Most Disciplined Female Student was Esther Aladago with Lydia Ahiagbah Dziedzorm going home with the Most Creative Designer (Fashion) while Alhassan Benin emerged as the Most Creative Designer (Textiles category).

The Registrar of the University, Mr. Samuel A. Obour, the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Arts, Dr. Zoya Evans Kpamma and Dr. Edem C. Atiase, Head of Department as well as several other dignitaries graced the occasion.
