Siemens to partner the Takoradi Technical University (TTU)
As part of efforts in bridging the gap between industry and academia, Takoradi Technical University has held talks with Global engineering company Siemens to explore collaborations in the areas of technology transfer, equipment and virtual learning.
The talks which will be sealed with signing a Memorandum of Understanding will enable the two institutions address critical labour needs in order to successfully integrate students of the University into the world of work.
According to the Country Manager of Siemens, Mr Edmund Acheampong, Siemens vision was to equip and expose lecturers and students in the sub-Saharan African Countries in varied industrial technologies to make them experts and employable in any filed that they may find themselves.
He revealed that the decision to hold talks with TTU was the common philosophy to impact young Africans with the needed requisite knowledge and technologies to support the socio-economic development of the country.
Mr Acheampong was optimistic that the collaboration will bridge the gap between academia and industry by addressing the inefficiencies in infrastructural resources in order to deliver cutting-edge manpower capable of meeting the target of industry.
The Vice Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof John Frank Eshun indicated that the ultimate goal of the university was to train market ready students who will not need any further training by industry. “Our product must be able to stand the test of time and compete with any graduate from other institutions across the globe”, the Vice Chancellor added.
According to him, the university was ready to partner any institution with the right certification and technology to help deliver quality teaching and learning.
He noted that one of the major challenges facing the university was inadequate modern resources to promote effective teaching and learning. He was therefore optimistic that the collaboration with Siemens will help address some of the challenges with respect to technology and equipment.
Present at the discussion were the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Victor Kweku Bondie Micah, The Director of Finance, Mr. Emmanuel Boadi, Dean of International Programmes and External Linkages Office (IPELO), Dr. Maama Efua Nkrumah and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Siemens was also represented by the Executive Director for the Sub- Saharan Africa, Rita Nkuhlu and the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Emily Molefe.
The Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be signed by the end of February, 2018.
