Accra Technical University (ATU) Dazzles at 2017 Maiden Tertiary Football League

Accra Technical University dazzled with some sublime display of football at the opening game of the Tertiary Football League played at the University of Ghana Stadium over the weekend.

The game, which served as the opener of a nine-week novel league for tertiary institutions in Ghana, saw ATU take on University of Ghana in a very cagey but interesting encounter that ended in a 2-2 draw.

The pulsating game played at a break neck speed in the opening minutes thrilled fans who gathered to watch the match put together by Rite Multimedia.

ATU scored the opening goal through Dieu-Donne Kouessi who converted from the spot in the 18th minute as ATU dominated play early on in the game.

Dieu-Donne Kouessi, ATU’s diminutive number 11 player who was a thorn in the flesh of the University Ghana team all afternoon, scored the goal which was a product of his dribbling skills after the UG failed to deal with his many onslaughts.

UG, however equalised through Ezekiel Asare in the 41st minute but fell behind again in the second half as ATU went ahead again after converting another infringement from the box.

Bernard Mensah scored from the spot for the second time in the game for ATU before UG’s Bright Amponsah got his side level with a header.

After the game, the coach of the ATU team, Martin Paddy, indicated that he was happy with his team’s performance because they have had only four days of training, adding that ATU will challenge for the trophy.

Present to witness the game were top Ghana football Association officials, President Kwesi Nyantakyi, head coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah and Technical Director Oti Akenteng.
