Use ICT For The Benefit of Society – GBC Regional Director Advises Takoradi Technical University (TTU) Students

The Western Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. Philip Baidoo, has urged Information and Communication Technology (ICT) students of Takoradi Technical University to use ICT positively so that society can fully benefit from it.

According to the Regional Director, the socio-economic developments of various nations in the world today have been expedited through the positive utilisation of ICT and its related technologies.

Mr. Philip Baidoo made these remarks at the orientation for newly-admitted students who would be pursuing HND Information and Communication Technology.

He charged the students to be innovative in order to develop applications and software that can address the various challenges society is facing. He further stated that the internet and its related technologies are meant to help develop our society, but not to cause crime that only exacerbates the current plight of society.

The founder and chairman of TPConnect (the application software development unit of the University), Mr. Joseph Danso, explained that the vision of the ICT Department was to train and equip students with the necessary skills and technologies to enable them lead the technological drive in the IT industry.

He was optimistic that considering the appropriate measures that have been put in place, students from the Department will, very soon, be developing very relevant and competitive applications to impart society positively.

On his part, the Head of the ICT Department, Mr. Frank Amoani Arthur, applauded the Department for developing the full IT interface which included the admissions system, the students’ portal, the industrial attachment system and the information management system that the university is currently using. “We are poised to make a difference in the IT world, and our students will be a force to reckon with when it comes to ICT and other technologies in the Web 2.0 space” he enthused.
