University of Ghana Doctoral School (The Pan-African Doctoral Academy-PADA) Application – 2019

The Pan-African Doctoral Academy at the University of Ghana supports doctoral students and early career faculty with training, mentoring, career guidance and scholarship. The overarching goal of PADA is increase the quality of PhD education in West Africa by providing complementary skills that are essential for the career progression of doctoral students and new PhD holders.

The flagship program of PADA is the doctoral school which offers targeted courses on specialized topics and as well provide opportunities for interdisciplinary and cross-cultural learning. PADA schools combine lectures with interactive and practical sessions, and are facilitated by experienced faculty. Since 2015, the doctoral school has trained over 600 alumni from 15 institutions and 7 countries. PADA schools are held in January and June-July and are open to registered PhD students from the University of Ghana and other African universities.

INVITATION to participate 2019 Doctoral Schools

PADA is pleased to announce a call for applications for its Doctoral Schools in June 2018. The Schools are open to all PhD students from universities in Africa. We especially encourage applications from students in West African universities.

Interested candidates may select up to two modules per school, making a maximum of two modules for both schools. Applicants are advised to apply early as space is limited and will be offered strictly on a first-come-first-served basis.

Doctoral School 1:  2019

Title Eligibility
Managing the PhD Process (including Managing Literature Review) Recommended for Year 1 and 2  PhD students**
Academic Writing and Communicating Research Results All PhD students
Presentation Skills All PhD students
Using ‘R’ for Data Analysis All PhD students ((Requirement: you must have taken a PhD level course in Quantitative Methodology)

** The University of Ghana will offer a limited number of scholarship to 1st year UG PhD students for the module on ‘Managing the PhD Process’ on a first-come-first-served basis. 

Doctoral School 2:    2019
