The University of Ghana hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the senior level administrative position in the College of Humanities, listed below and which will become vacant on 1st August.

Objectives of the College:  The College of Humanities shall advance the objectives of each of its constituent Units and by these specific objectives, to:
(a) Create synergy for interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research in the Arts, Social Sciences, Business and Law;
(b) Provide faculty and students with skills in its various fields to contribute to the development needs of the country;
(c) Establish and promote international networks of Arts, Social Sciences, Business and Law
(d) Enhance the sharing of human, financial and material resources;

POSITION (1):           Dean, School of Languages

REPORTING TO:   Provost, College of Humanities

The School of Languages is made up of the following Departments:
Department of English
Department of French
Department of Linguistics
Department of Modern Languages


POSITION (2):           Dean, School of Social Sciences

REPORTING TO:   Provost, College of Humanities

The School of Social Sciences is made up of the following Departments:
Department of Economics
Department of Geography and Resource Development
Department of Political Science
Department of Psychology
Department of Social Work
Department of Sociology
    
POSITION (3):           Dean, School of Performing Arts

REPORTING TO:   Provost, College of Humanities

The School of Performing Arts is made up of the following Departments:
Department of Dance Studies
Department of Music
Department of Theatre Arts

POSITION (4):           Principal, Accra City Campus

REPORTING TO:   Provost, College of Humanities

A fee-paying campus under the college of Humanities, the Accra City Campus offers the same subjects that are offered in the various departments and schools under the College of Humanities.

    
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must:
(a) be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.

(b) be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.

(c) provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School/Campus.

(d) demonstrate the capacity to attract funding for research and development.

(e) have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School/Campus.

DUTIES
A Dean/Principal is responsible for providing leadership to the School/Campus and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order per the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the School/ Campus Management Committee.

The Dean/Principal is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School/Campus are duly carried out by members of the School/ Campus.

The Dean/Principal is also responsible for the general administration of the School/Campus in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

TENURE
The Dean/Principal shall hold office for a period of three years and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.

The application pack should contain the following:    

i.  Completed application form for Senior Level Administrative Positions (UAB Form 1C) to be downloaded from the University’s website at https://www.ug.edu.gh/hrodd;

ii. An up to date Curriculum Vitae and copies of relevant academic and/or   professional certificates; and,

iii. A statement of about 2,500 words (not more than five pages) indicating how one intends to use the period in office to address relevant issues that will ensure that the University achieves its mission and vision.
