University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Home Economics Education Department calls on Entrepreneurs for Collaboration
A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Home Economics Education, UEW, Ms. Kutum Comfort Madah has called on entrepreneurs to collaborate with the Department of Home Economics Education to promote most of the products the students have created.
She said that the Department had created lots of local drinks and recipes but those products could be found on the shelves of the Department as nobody was promoting them.
Ms. Kutum Comfort Madah disclosed this during the level 300 practical examination and exhibition of the course: Recipe Development and Food Preservation at the Home Economics Department, North Campus on Friday, 8th December, 2017.
“Our Department has manufactured a lot of local drinks and products but they still remain on the shelves because we need to promote them and we can only promote them through entrepreneurs. Therefore, we are encouraging the entrepreneurs that we have out there to join hands with us so that we can project the image of the Department as well as most of the recipes that we have developed in the Department.” She said.
The Head of Home Economics Education Department, Mrs. Theresa Alexandra Amu revealed that the Home Economics Programme was a vocational and technical oriented course involving lots of practical activities.
“This exhibition is the practical examination for the course: Recipe Development and Food Preservation. It is not only for the end of semester examination assessment but to also appreciate some of the recipes the students have produced” She said.
She pointed out that the students were expected to preserve local fruits, produce drinks from local foodstuff and then use the food items for snacks and other things.
The Head of Department appreciated the students’efforts to have come out with various products for the various regions. She therefore encouraged them not to end there just for the sake examinations but continue to exhibit their potentials until they discover the entrepreneurship qualities in them.
“The exhibition is also to open avenues for you to understand that you can do something on your own to unearth the entrepreneurship abilities in you. These products can be sent to the open market for sale and provide employment for yourself and others. Be employers for the nation.” She addressed the level 300 students.
The exhibition hosted representatives from every region producing local recipes and drinks from prekesse, melon, pineapple, orange and ginger.
