UEW School of Creative Arts organises its second Outreach Programme – 2018

The School of Creative Arts, as part of its educational and sensitization efforts of fostering deep understanding of the significance of the Visual Art Programme and the Creative Arts, has organized its second in a series of outreach programmes for students in senior high schools.

On Friday, March 23, 2018, the School of Creative Arts visited Apam Senior High School in the Central Region of Ghana to explain the significance of the visual art programme to the students and the strong option of applying to further their education at the University of Education, Winneba. It was also organised as an outreach programme for the University of Education, Winneba.

The visit was organised by the Department of Art Education, Textiles and Fashion Design Education Unit, and the Department of Graphic Design. Through video documentaries and slide presentations, a five-member team of lecturers from these departments briefed the students on the significance of creative arts, programmes of study in the Department of Graphic Design, Department of Art Education, and Textiles and Fashion Design Education, job opportunities and entry requirements for the various programmes. Job opportunities highlighted include product designer, animator, cinematographer, motion graphic designer, sculptor, textiles and fashion designer, curator, and multimedia lab technician among others. The need to be self-supportive as an entrepreneur was also emphasised within the context of changing economic environment.

The lecturers who embarked on this outreach programme were Dr Ebenezer Acquah, the Acting Head of Department, Graphic Design, Mr Cyril Kpodo, a lecturer in Art Education, Mr Isaac Aboagye, lecturer in Art Education, Ms Solace Adzei, an assistant lecturer in Graphic Design, and Mr Henry Aryeetey, a technician at the Department of Art Education. The visit was also supported by the Acting Dean, School of Creative Arts, Dr Patrique deGraft-Yankson and the Head of Department of Art Education, Dr. A. K. Kemevor.

The teachers in the Visual Art Department at Apam Senior High School thanked the lecturers for the visit and added that such programmes should be organised yearly for the teachers and students to understand and be updated on the career opportunities available in the field of Creative Arts that are overlooked.
