He also commended and thanked them for their decision to acquire higher academic credentials through the Distance Education mode at the UEW.

“You have been on our Campuses as well as at our various Study Centres for a while and have indeed gone through Orientation, Registration, attended tutorials and even written quizzes; a clear indication that you are duly qualified for the programmes you applied for.” He said.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor hinted that in an attempt to reduce travelling difficulties and make it easier for them to fully participate in important activities of the University such as Orientation and Matriculation with as little stress as possible; two venues had been added to the initial venues.

The four venues would matriculate a total of 7,051 Fresh Undergraduate Students who had registered for the various Distance Education Programmes comprising 3,014 males representing 43% and 4,037 females representing 57%. As indicated in the Acting Vice-Chancellor’s speech, the Institute for Distance and e-Learning (IDeL) had introduced an online information system to manage Distance Education students’ records. As a result, commencing from the second semester of this year, students would be required to register their courses online.

“With this system, students can check their quiz and examination results as soon as they are uploaded; verify their transcripts and attestation letters in the course of their study. We therefore urge all students to make it a point to register their courses online. Study Centre Coordinators and Administrators will be available to assist students who may experience difficulties.” The speech noted.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni urged the Fresh Distance Education students to make every effort to join the Distance Education Students Association (DESA) for the purposes for which it was created. The association was formed and inaugurated on 19th August, 2017.
