Training Overview – Recruits

The training of a recruit begins right after gaining entry into the Army Recruits Training School (ARTS), the Air Force Training School and the Basic Leadership Training School (BLTS). The training is initially geared towards building mental and physical toughness in the individual with a blend of basic military tactics. Recruits are to take note of the fact that an entrance exam would be conducted within the first week of entry and performance determines which recruit’s become appointments (Prefects) within the intake. This exam goes a long way to determine seniority based on various exam scores in order of merit, all through the training period and even after completion.  The training stretches across a maximum of 6 months with a particular attention on personal discipline and building a sense urgency amongst recruits. Academic work is tailored around the following:

  • Map Reading and Navigation
  • Tactics
  • Skill at Arms
  • Signals and Voice Procedure

Recruits are expected to perform above average in all areas related to the training (academic and physical) with a conscious effort to complete the training and pass out successfully.
