Sunyani Technical University (STU) Staff Workshop on Technical Universities Act – 2018
Ing. Dr. Agyemang Boakye entreated all staff of the university to make conscious efforts to study the Technical Universities Act and be familiar with the various aspects of it.
Members of Convocation and other Directors of the Sunyani Technical University (STU) have been schooled on the Technical Universities Act (Act 922), 2016.
It was to keep participants abreast of the various provisions in the Act and religiously comply with them as they carry out their professional duties.
The Chairman of STU Governing Council, Ing. Dr. Kwame Agyemang Boakye; the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah; the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. J.S Korantwi-Barimah and the Registrar, Mr. S.A Obour were among those who participated in the training programme.
The Council Chairman, Ing. Dr. Agyemang Boakye said as part of the university’s colloquium, resource persons with varied backgrounds and expertise would be brought in from time to time to share their rich experiences with staff.
He entreated all staff of the university to make conscious efforts to study the Technical Universities Act and be familiar with the various aspects of it.
For his part, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ing. Adinkrah-Appiah was of the view that the workshop was critical, especially in the face of the challenges saddling technical universities in the country.
He said the setting up of technical universities had brought a big relief to students of technical and vocational programmes as they can now be assured of academic progression to the PhD level.
A former Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), Dr. Paul Effa, was the Resource Person for the workshop.
Earlier, a day’s workshop on effective office management and administration for Deans, of faculty, HODs and Unit heads, among others.
Two main topics were treated at the workshop. They are “Preparation toward holding Deanship and Head of Department/Unit positions” and “Duties and responsibilities of Dean, Head of Department/Unit.”
It formed part of series of training seminars earmarked for staff of the University on effective office management and administration to sharpen their managerial skills.
