Stay away from drugs – Takoradi Technical University (TTU) VC advises 2017 Fresh Students
STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS – VC CAUTIONS FRESH STUDENTS
The Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, Prof. John Frank Eshun has advised newly-admitted students to avoid the use of illicit drugs as they begin their academic journey on the campus of the university.
Speaking on the first day of orientation to welcome freshmen and women to begin the 2017/2018 academic year, Prof. Eshun called on students to stay focused on their academic objectives by avoiding activities that will jeopardize their education.
He reminded the freshers that inappropriate behaviour of any student could affect the hard-earned reputation of the university and as well tarnish the value of their certificates.
“Students who engage in any inappropriate behaviour would be dealt with ruthlessly according to the laid down rules and regulations” he added.
He therefore asked the students to read the Students’ Hand Book to help them be abreast with the programmes and course requirements, examinations issues as well as general rules and regulations governing students’ code of conduct and discipline.
The Vice Chancellor again besieged the students to be of good behavior and good ambassadors of TTU wherever they may find themselves.
On skills development, Prof Eshun advised students to take advantage of the mandatory industrial attachment to improve upon their skills in order to gain competitive advantage in the world of work.
In her welcome address, the Registrar of the University, Mrs. Silvia Oppong-Mensah, called on the students to use the one-week orientation period to familiarize themselves with the university community to better understand its culture and philosophy.
She said the laid down rules and regulations of the university will be enforced to the latter if students go against them.
The Acting Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Samuel Adentwi Bentrum who also chaired occasion observed that the university considers its students as an important part of the community thus would ensure that they were provided with the needed resources to make their stay on campus enjoyable.
He advised them to take their academic studies seriously to enable them acquire all the necessary certification available.
Deans from the various Faculties of the university took turns to brief the new students on the various programmes in their faculty and the prospect that come with such programmes.
