Scholarship Opportunities In Ghana

KNUST Scholarship and Grants

Through the DoS office, KNUST has provided financial assistance   and advice to students who need help in meeting their education expenses.   We believe that financial difficulties should not be an impediment to education.  We map out plans to do all within our possible best to students who are genuinely in need of such help.  All of our financial aid is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need.


Scholarships

These usually cover full payment of Academic Facility User Fees (AFUF) for the duration of the beneficiary’s programme of study or for a number of academic years. Depending on the Donor, the scholarship may also cover other expenses such as accommodation, books and stipend. These include the following.

Educational Pathways International Scholarship

Educational Pathways International is a foundation that offers four-year Scholarships for brilliant but needy students to enable them pursue University Education in their own country. The Scholarship is opened to all 1st, to 3rd years’ brilliant but needy students of KNUST reading full time programmes. Minimum grade of prospective continuing student applicants must be at least Second Class Upper. A first year applicant should have a WASSCE Result Aggregate of Nine (9).

Fondazione Edu Scholarship

Fondazione Edu is a family run foundation in Italy aimed at providing young needy students access to higher education in developing countries. The foundation is interested in supporting students in the Sciences and Agronomy, IT and Engineering fields. The foundation supports students who are in their First year of study in KNUST.

Woodgroup Scholarship and Awards

Woodgroup Scholarship is established in collaboration with KNUST to cater for Two (2) needy first year students coming from the Less Endowed communities/Schools in Ghana who have been admitted as engineering students through the Less Endowed admission programme of the University. This scholarship scheme is aimed at helping students whose financial situation would not have made it possible for them to study Mechanical and Civil Engineering at the University.

As a way to encourage excellence among students, Wood Group also gives Cash and other Prizes awards to students from 1st to 4th years based on nominations for excelling in their classes.

Timothy Ansah Memorial Foundation Scholarship -TAMF

Timothy Ansah Memorial Foundation is a scholarship package to support needy but brilliant students who are born and schooled in the Western Region of Ghana with their University Education. It must be noted that the scholarship is only for needy but brilliant students who are Ghanaians from the Western part of Ghana.

Vodafone Ghana Scholarship

Vodafone Ghana Scholarship is a social development scholarship given by Vodafone to Female students reading Telecommunication and Electrical Engineering as part of its social responsibility. The students selected for this kind of scholarship through assessment tests leads internship offers and further employments by Vodafone Ghana.

TEST for Ghana

The Foundation provides four year full or partial scholarships to needy but brilliant students to undertake new and/or continuing Tertiary Education studies at Ghanaian Public Universities and Polytechnics in their own country. Continuing beneficiaries must pick up renewal forms every academic year to continue benefiting from the scholarship.

Total Petroleum Ghana Scholarship-TPGL

Total Petroleum Ghana Limited (TPGL) in collaboration with KNUST is offering scholarship and training to brilliant but needy students to assist them pursue their University education. The Scholarship is opened to all 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th years’ brilliant but needy students of KNUST reading full time programmes from the College of Engineering.

Lebanese Community Scholarship

The Lebanese Embassy Scholarship is a scholarship package for undergraduate brilliant Law Students from the Faculty of Law of the University. The Scholarship covers tuition fees, and other educational expenses. This scholarship is strictly based on academic performance and NOT financial status of students. The Scholarship is given by the Lebanese Embassy in Ghana.

MASTEES

The Mathematics, Science and Technology Students Scholarship (MASTEES) is a Government of Ghana scholarship package for both undergraduate and post-graduate students to support students of such fields of study in their Tertiary Education. Since the 2013/2014 Academic year, the Government of Ghana has suspended payments to the MASTEES beneficiaries. The Government is in the process to revive the scholarship.

Baker Hughes

The Women Resource of Baker Hughes is a group of enthusiastic women who aims at attracting the best female talent in the job market to work for Baker Hughes. In light of this, the group considers an opportunity to sponsor needy and brilliant female students as a means of helping them achieve their career objectives and probably as potential employees of Baker Hughes. The selection is base on passing an aptitude test.

Bursaries

These may cover full or part payment of Academic Facility User Fees-AFUF of beneficiaries in a particular year.

Unibank Ghana Limited Bursary

Unibank Bursary has been established by Unibank Ghana Ltd. in collaboration with KNUST to give financial support to all needy but brilliant Ghanaian students who are pursuing regular full time programs. The Bursary is aimed at supporting students with their Academic Facility User Fees to reduce financial stress on needy students from 1st to final year.

S. T. Nankani Bursary

S. T. Nankani bursaries is a financial support given to Needy but Brilliant students of the University since 2005. The Scheme aims at supporting needy but brilliant students from the College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Science. The awards also takes into consideration Gender balance and the Region where the student hails from.

Kingdom Books and Stationery Bursary Scheme

In collaboration with KNUST, the Kingdom Books and Stationery Bursary was established in 2006 to support needy but brilliant students financially towards their educational expenses. The Scheme supports 50 students annually and the Award given is based on the ratio of 40% towards Books and Stationary and 60% cash towards Academic Facility User Fees.

Toyota Ghana Bursary

As part of its social responsibility, Toyota Ghana Ltd. has established the Toyota Ghana Bursary to support needy but brilliant students reading Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, KNUST. The Bursary is given to the students to support their educational expenses.

Internal Financial Supports

These are financial supports or bursaries given to needy students mainly to help support their educational expenses. These supports are provided through University initiatives and also by the Students Welfare Associations at the various Colleges.

Graduate Assistantship

Graduate Assistantship is a Financial Support programme given by the University to post-graduate students on merit on their academic performance to lecture undergraduate students in some selected Departments of the University for which they are given monthly allowance.

Undergraduate Student Work Study Programme

The University in its effort to assist its needy students financially in the form of Bursaries and Scholarships has also adopted the Work Study programme. Under the Work Study program, needy students are given jobs on campus to earn wages. Students work during the free periods on their Time Tables and other Class Schedules.

KNUST Bursary/Financial Assistance

As part of the University’s Initiative to support its needy but brilliant students, the KNUST Bursary/ Financial Assistance was established which the University use part of its Internally Generated Fund -IGF to help students with Academic Facility User Fees (AFUF).  The Bursary is given to all full time regular students of the University with needs.

Ketewa Biara Nsua – SRC

Through the initiative of the Students Representative Council of the University, the KBN- ‘Ketewa Biara Nsua’ was established in 2006 to help support the payment of Academic Facility User Fees and other educational expenses their needy friends who find it very difficult financially through their educational journey. This Bursary is opened to all full-time regular students of the University.

Noko Fio – SRC

Newly introduced by SRC to support colleague students with petty and urgent needs.

College Students’ Welfare Associations

At the College Level, Students Welfare Associations  also use part of their dues to support their fellow students who have difficulty in meeting their educational expenses to enable them go through their education with reduced financial stress. It is opened to all students in their respective Colleges

GRASAG ‘Boa Wo Nua’

GRASAG ‘Boa Wo Nua’ is a Scheme set up to help support Graduate Studies students at the Graduate School level who need some small financial push.

How To Apply For UG Sponsorship

You are required to read the eligibility page, download the appropriate form and submit a completed application form with all the supporting documentation to the Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO). It is important that you respond fully to all the questions on the form that are applicable to you. You may be asked for additional information if corrections are needed or if any information/response on your application is not clear.

The next step is an interview of short listed applicants. If your application is successful, you will receive written notification from the SFAO describing the kind of financial aid that you have been awarded. The award would be credited to your student account at the University of Ghana.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
The following are examples of documents that can be used to support applications:

• Official pay slip or payroll record of parents/guardians or the applicant.
• Recent school receipts/ bills of siblings of school going age.
• Tax return receipts– IRS, VAT, tabletop hawking receipts, etc.
• Birth Certificates (of siblings).
• Death Certificate or Burial permit (in case of death of a parent).
• Pension letter for retired parents/guardians.
• Bank Statements / Ghana Cocoa Board Farmers Association Passbook.
• SSNIT contribution statements.
• Money transfer receipts.
• National Health Insurance receipts (showing premium paid).
• Evidence of other dependants of parents/guardians.
• Any other supporting documents that you believe will assist in the processing, of your application.

Please Note 

It is important that your eligibility for student financial aid be based upon accurate information. In doing so, together, we can ensure that the right students get financial support, and that the integrity of the University of Ghana Students Financial Aid programme is preserved.

Misrepresentation in any form or manner shall render an application null and void. Any awards made based on a misrepresentation shall be withdrawn or refunded by the applicant, and in addition he/she also may be prosecuted.
