Regional Maritime University Organises Public Lecture – 2017

RMU ORGANISES FIRST PUBLIC LECTURE TO MARK 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
As part of activities to mark the University’s 10th Anniversary Celebration,  a Public Lecture was organized on the 10th of May, 2017.  The Public Lecture, with the theme:  “Promoting Partnership Between People, Ports and Ships” was held at the RMU African Unity Auditorium.  The Lecture was facilitated by a Resource Person, Mr. Ben Owusu-Mensah – CEO Benom Consult and former Director-General of the Ghana Port and Harbours Authority and chaired by Alhaji Abdulai-Saiku, a Retired RMU Staff, and former Director of Academic Affairs of RMU.   Participants were enlightened on issues pertaining to Maximization of Port Efficiency via Investment in equipment, infrastructure, training, Policies, Port Management System etc.  The Lecturer also highlighted the issue of Port Reforms under Public Private Partnership, the Role of Seaports in National Development and the Challenges Faced by African Ports.

In his opening address, the Vice Chancellor of RMU, Professor Elvis Nyarko said this 1st Public Lecture had a focus on ‘the Ports’ and it was crucial to learn from the wealth of experience of Port Experts such as the Resource Person, Mr. Ben Owusu-Mensah and urged all participants to take advantage of the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge from the Lecture.  The next Public Lecture is scheduled for October, 2017 with a focus on  “Seafarers”.

The 10th Anniversary celebration commemorates 10 years of RMU’s elevation to ‘University status’ by Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor on the 25th of October, 2007.

The Anniversary seeks to forge greater collaborations and partnerships and also create awareness about the RMU and its mandate to the general public.

  • Outreach Programme for Nungua Fishermen held in May, 2017
  • Official Launch of 10th Anniversary during June Congregation
  • Launch of Faculty Reader before the end of 2017
  • 2nd Public Lecture in October, 2017
  • 10th Anniversary and Official Launch of 60th Anniversary in October, 2017
