The Institute for Distance and e-Learning (IDeL) of the University of Education, Winneba introduces Online Information System for Distance Education Students Launched – 2018

The Institute for Distance and e-Learning (IDeL) has introduced an Online Student Information System for its Distance Education (DE) students to aid them register their courses online, track their financial transactions, view quiz and examination results and be able to request for official documents such as transcripts with ease.

This was captured in the address of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni during the 2nd Session of the 22nd Congregation at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba from Friday, 20th to Saturday 21st April, 2018.

 The Acting Vice-Chancellor in his address said that the DE Institute of the University underwent major restructuring that resulted in the creation of two Institutes from the former Institute for Educational Development and Extension (IEDE).

 “These new entities are the Institute for Distance and e-Learning (IDeL) which has an overriding mission of providing high quality distance and e-Learning programmes, and the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD) established to provide educational services as well as Teacher Professional Development programmes at the University and beyond.” He said.

He added “currently, IDeL has 38 study centres with the latest at Kasoa. As an Institute, IDeL runs seven Bachelor’s Degree programmes, four Post-Diploma programmes, five Diploma programmes and five Postgraduate programmes”.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni stressed that IDeL has instituted an award scheme for the Best Coordinator and Study Centre to help provide quality student services at the various Study Centres and ensure that staff at the various Study Centres were well motivated to put in their best.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor also extended a goodwill message to the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII and his subjects as the community prepares to celebrate its Aboakyer festival early May.

 “I wish also, to take the opportunity to specially acknowledge and appreciate our Landlord, Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Effutu Omanhene, and his entourage, as well as Okokodurfo Nana Kwamena Hammah Ababio II, Omanhene of Ajumako Traditional Area. Nananom, we sincerely appreciate your friendship and support to this University, and we pray that this admirable relationship will continue to grow and blossom.

“To Neenyi Ghartey VII, please allow me, on behalf of the University, to wish you many blessings and continued progress in your reign and in your kingdom, especially as you prepare to celebrate the great and famous Aboakyer Festival in a few days time.” He said.

The Aboakyer festival is one of the prestigious festivals in Ghana. It is a week-long activity which is celebrated in the first week of May.
