M.Phil. Ghanaian language Studies at the University of Education, WInneba (UEW) (A regular programme for Students of Ga-Dangme, Nzema and Gur-Gonja languages)

About the Programme

The programme is designed to train high quality graduates of the Ghanaian Languages who have acquired in-depth knowledge and a very high incidence of competence and performance in their language of study. It is also to implant in the students the desire and the ability to make use of the Ghanaian Languages of their study in higher intellectual communication without any hint of code-switching or code-mixing. The programme will equip graduates to enable them produce fundamental scientific, technological and legal textbooks and documents, among other reference material for Ghanaian Languages via the students’ project works, the translation courses and other activities inherent in the programme.

Entry Requirements

To be admitted to the M.Phil. Ghanaian Language Studies degree programmes (GLS), the candidate must have obtained a first degree (First Class or Second Class Division) from the University of Education, Winneba or any recognized university with any of the following programmes:

a. A Ghanaian Language
b. Linguistics with courses in the Ghanaian Language, which the student has chosen to study.

Candidates with the following qualifications are also eligible to apply for the M.Phil. in Ghanaian Language Studies Programme.
a. Graduate Diploma in Ghanaian Language and Linguistics
b. M.A. Ghanaian Language Studies

Candidates are to attend and pass the University’s interview.
