Kumasi technical University (KSTU) graduates over 2,000 students during it’s 2017 Maiden Congregation
Over two thousand students have graduated with various certificates and degrees including; Professional Diploma, Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates and Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degrees. Master Emmanuel Ateah emerged the best graduating student from the HND group. The graduation ceremony was held on Saturday, 14th October, 2017 at the New Great Hall for the 2015/2016 Academic year graduands. The ceremony was the maiden edition of the Institution as a Technical University and the 12th edition from the era of Polytechnic.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Interim Vice Chancellor, Prof. Asiamah Yeboah espoused some of the achievements of the University including development of human capital and development of new programmes to enrich the programmes being run by the Institution. He used the opportunity to inform the general public about the collaboration that has been established with Cape Coast Technical University to build the capacity of both technical and administrative staff of the two universities.
He again congratulated the graduands especially the best graduating student on successfully passing out after various years of intensive studies. He bemoaned the seeming lack of infrastructure that was hampering the Institution’s progress but added that efforts were far advanced to improve the infrastructure. Prof. Asiamah Yeboah appealed to government to fast track the review of working conditions of the staff of Technical Universities to forestall exodus of such staff to the Traditional Universities.
The ceremony was graced by Nana Okofo Sobin Kan II, the Chief of Adanse Dompoase who represented Otumfour Osei Tutu II, Dr. Yaw Adutwum (Deputy Education Minister), members of the University Council, ACP William Boah (Manhyia Divisional Commander) who represented the Regional Police Commander. Others included Nananom (Asemhene, Peasehene, Kuntenanse, Adako Jachiehene) Members of Parliament including Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye (Bantama Constituency), Hon. Eugene Antwi (Subin Constituency), representatives from sister universities, and some sponsors of the programme.
Nana Okofo Sobin Kan II in his speech congratulated the Institution on the attainment of a Technical University status. He sent warm felicitations from Otumfour Osei Tutu II (Asantehene) to all graduands and encouraged them to be citizens and not spectators as they move into the world of work. The Chief also in his own stead reminded the graduands that society was ready for them if only they avail themselves.
Dr. Yaw Adutwum, the Deputy Education Minister in addressing the graduands reminded them that the government was ready to create the necessary environment for them to succeed. He reiterated the policies that had been rolled out by the government including the free SHS, sufficient attention to Technical and Vocational Education, and said the government was ready to support start-up businesses. He further stressed that the Nana Addo Danqua Akufo-Addo led government was mindful of Technical Universities and was ready to improve the existing facilities to meet the acceptable standards. He advised the University Council to collaborate with the regulatory bodies to ensure effective oversight so as to fulfill their mandate as Technical University.
