KNUST–TUM Deepens Existing Collaboration 2018
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has deliberated on ways to deepen the existing partnership between them. In this light, sections of the University which already have some form of partnership with TUM have met to formally institutionalise all the partnerships for KNUST.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Rita Dickson, noted that KNUST and TUM have had collaborations over the years, but they have not been at a wider institutional level. She therefore called for the need to bring all existing partnerships under one umbrella so that, the appropriate offices and stakeholders can effectively manage, monitor and evaluate all projects. She expressed management’s gratitude for the collaboration and reiterated KNUST’s commitment to share in the TUM vision and the interdisciplinary partnerships.
The Senior Vice President, International Alliances and Alumni, Professor Dr. Juliane Winkelmann, in a presentation outlined the existing as well as proposed partnership areas between the two institutions. She noted that TUM seeks to promote Intra African Cooperation in the key areas of: Water-Food-Energy, Land-Construction-Mobility-Environment and Global Health and Governance.
Professor Dr. Winkelmann was hopeful that the collaboration would help empower young African population with the ability to solve complex problems with an entrepreneurial mindset. This, she said would also promote a prototypical north-south partnership, using technical and strategic skills with an interdisciplinary approach.
In addition to the TUM delegation, the meeting had representations from the International Programmes Office, the Centre for Business Development, Department of Planning, Department of Land Economy and the Energy Centre.
Others were the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation and Centre, Kumasi (RWESCK), the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
