Institute of Inter-Disciplinary Research and Consultancy Services (IIRACS) Hosts 4th Annual Inter-Disciplinary Conference – 2017

The Institute of Inter-Disciplinary Research and Consultancy Services (IIRACS) has hosted the Annual Inter-Disciplinary Conference (formerly Inter-faculty lectures) at the Nyankpala Campus of the University for Development Studies. This year’s event which was held from Wednesday 6th to Thursday, 7th September 2017 was theme less as it incorporated different disciplines.

Dr. E.S. Mahama, Director of IIRACS espoused the rationale behind the conference and paid tribute to Prof. David Millar, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of UDS for initiating the inter-faculty lectures and Professors Stephen Kendie and Seidu Al-Hassan for their immense contributions towards sustaining the programme.

Delivering his key note address, the Vice-Chancellor of UDS Prof. G.A. Teye entreated Universities to pioneer and continue to research into new knowledge that will address developmental challenges. He appealed to Government to support quality research by fulfilling its promise to establish a research fund.
Prof. Teye hinted that various activities have been lined up to mark the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of UDS, and charged IIRACS to get actively involved.

In a speech delivered on his behalf, the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Salifu Saeed commended UDS Management for instituting the Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP) which in his opinion exposed students to real life challenges and generated data on communities which have proved to be useful to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in planning the development of their respective communities. Participants were drawn from Academia, Non-Governmental Organizations, civil society groups and the general public.
