GNPC Donates to the Accra Technical University Science Laboratory – 2018

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has donated some usable science equipment, chemicals, reagents and glassware to the Science Laboratory Technology Department of Accra Technical University (ATU) as part of its quest to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the country.
The gesture comes at the time when the University has commenced a blanket Competency-Based Training where students are examined practically at the end of every semester. This is to ensure that students acquire hands-on experience and also be abreast with the use of modern equipment required by the industry.
Grappling with inadequate practical equipment in accommodating the increasingly high numbers of students over the years, it is expected that the donation will mitigate the stress of having to teach and assess students in batches.
Receiving the items on behalf of Management, the Dean, School of Applied Sciences and Arts, Mr. Martin Owusu Amoamah, expressed gratitude to the National Oil Company and vowed that the apparatus will be put to a judicious use having reckoned the tall financial outlay of the equipment.
The visibly elated Dean added that, the timely donation will boost the University’s vision and mandate through the Competency-Based Training approach, research and other output activities with students at the receiving end.
Mr. Amoamah again stated the readiness of the University in deepening the ties with GNPC in promoting excellence in science and engineering education.
Speaking on behalf of the Board and Management team of GNPC, the General Manager for Sustainability, Dr. Kwame Amoah Baah-Nuako acknowledged the receipt of a proposal by the University requesting for the refurbishment of one of its laboratories to enhance teaching and learning.
He continued to outline some interventions for the University which he said is in the offing including scholarship packages for deserving students and lecturers. Dr. Amoah Baah-Nuako further assured the University of a lot more future supports in other Departments of the University.
Among the items donated were a Gas Chromatograph with five cylinders, water bath and various chemicals including assorted acids and alkali, safety equipment, a fume chamber, glassware, centrifuge, heating mantle and several others.
