The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Donates Health Equipment and Materials to Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Clinic
The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has donated various health equipment and materials worth GH¢17,032.98 to the GIMPA Clinic.
The items included a modern microscope, heavy duty weighing scales with height meter, sphygmomanometers and stethoscopes, a desktop computer, UPS anda printer. The rest are glucometers and glucose test strips, a public address system, assorted health information materials, and a 32 inch flat screen television.
Presenting the items, Ms. Juliette Edzeame, the Project Manager indicated that the donation forms part of the ‘Prevention is better than cure’ (PBC) project which is a subsidiary of the developpp.deGhana programme of GIZ.
‘The PBC project is a 3-year project implemented in collaboration with the Ghana Association of Quasi-Government Health Institutions (GAQHI), of which the GIMPA Clinic is a member, ‘said Ms. Edzeame.
She noted that the project was aimed at integrating prevention and health promoting measures in the service packages of both public and private health service providers, including health insurance providers in the country.
This, she said, would complement the curative services being offered currently by health care and insurance providers.
‘It would also improve health care provision as well as address the social protection needs of staff, their families and the general public as a whole,’ she reiterated.
Receiving the items, Mr. Patrick Yankey, the Human Resource Manager of GIMPA, expressed his appreciation to GIZ and its partners for helping to improve the health needs of the GIMPA community.
He indicated that plans were far advanced to transform the clinic into a full-fledged health facility with modern equipment by January next year.
‘The clinic will move into a bigger structure, and trained laboratory technicians, and paramedics will be brought in to augment what we already have and there will be two medical officers on shift,’ said Mr. Yankey.
Ms. Jane Ansah-Boateng, a physician assistant at the clinic thanked GIZ and partners for the kind gesture and promised to utilise the items to improve the quality of health of the GIMPA community.
