GBUC Social Responsibilities
GBUC as part of its social responsibilities, organized a training session for all SHS Matrons in Ashanti Region. The brain behind the training was to give these Matrons knowledge in providing good and healthy food to our SHS students, in consonance with the sayings “a healthy food gives a sound mind”.
During his presentation, Dr. Daniel M. Anang (a senior Lecturer, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK), took the Matrons through how to safely prepare healthy meal for the students, how to handle oneself even before starting to cook, etc.
He also emphasized on food poisoning; their causes and prevention as well as food borne diseases. Pests control, how to handle “leftover food”, keeping temperatures of various ingredients, etc, were also some of the topics treated during the training.
At the end of the training, the, the matrons really appreciated GBUC as the organizers and Dr. Anang for the amazing knowledge imparted to them. They also promised to put every knowledge acquired into practice to make sure a healthy and safe food would be prepared for their students all the time.
The president of University College, Rev. Dr. Yaw Adu-Gyamfi in his introductory message emphasize on the fact that God has given mankind knowledge to take care of ourselves and so Christians must utilize it.
In conclusion, GBUC intends to organize many of such trainings to other matrons in the other regions in Ghana since this was second in Ashanti Region.
