Chairman of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Council Calls for Financial Clearance for Staff Boost

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Obeng Mireku has appealed to the government to grant the University financial clearance to enable it increase its staff strength.

He stressed that the University continues to expand in both infrastructure and human resources to enable it cater for the increasing student population hence, the need to employ more staff, particularly academic staff to meet its increasing population.

The Chairman of the Governing Council made the appeal at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba during the 24th Congregation held from Thursday, 17th October and is expected to end on Saturday, 26th October, 2019 at the Kumasi Campus.

“We earnestly appeal to Government for financial clearance to recruit more staff, especially academic staff to meet our expanded population, and in anticipation of the large number of Senior High School (SHS) students who will be seeking admission into the University following the government’s flagship Free SHS initiative,” he emphasised.

Prof. Mireku reiterated that the University is constructing ultra-modern lecture theatres, expanding student residential facilities and also improving the road network on its campuses to sustain the continued expansion of resources and Faculties.      

He admonished graduands to let their life impact positively on the society in which they find themselves and beyond as they are about to experience real life. “Leave indelible marks for posterity to benefit as you transit into the ‘real world’ by your graduation today. Be the ambassadors of change wherever you find yourselves and exhibit an attitude worthy of emulation.”

A total of 16,489 students will be graduating at the first session of the 24th Congregation ceremonies taking place at Winneba, Asante-Mampong and Kumasi Campuses.
